Hanna Hegenscheidt - Short Bio:



Hanna lives and works in Berlin. She teaches body work/Klein Technique™ at her studio 142 at Kunstquartier Bethanien in Kreuzberg since many years. She studied dance pedagogy and is a Certified Laban-Bartenieff-Movement-Analyst (CMA). She holds a Certificate as a teacher of Klein Technique™ and an MA in Choreography.
Hanna worked as a dancer and Choreographer in New York and Germany. In September 2024 she will finish her BA in Social Work at the University RheinMain in Wiesbaden. Next to teaching Klein Technique™ she works as a school social worker at the Erika-Mann-school in Wedding and at TanzZeit e.V.




Hanna

is a choreographer and teacher, based in Berlin. She studied dance, Klein Technique™ (with Susan Klein and Barbara Mahler) and Laban-Movement-Analysis (CMA) in Hamburg and New York. Since 2000 she is a certified Klein Technique™ teacher. From 2012 - 2014 she studied to receive her Master in Choreography at the Amsterdamse Hogeschool foor de Kunsten.

Since 1998 she teaches Klein Technique™ at the Susan Klein School of Dance, N.Y., HZT Berlin, HfM Cologne, Sasha Waltz & Guests, Meg Stuart, Studio LaborGras, K3 Tanzplan Hamburg, Dancetheater of Ljubliana/Slovenia, Toronto Dance Theater, among others. In April 2011 she opened the studio 142 in Berlin-Kreuzberg, where she offers open classes on a regular basis.

As a performer she has worked with Gina Gibney Dance, Robert Wilson, Lise Brenner, Michael Simon, Gitta Barthel, Reinhild Hoffmann, Michaela Fünfhausen, David Weber-Krebs, Achim Freyer, Martin Clausen/Two Fish among others. 2008/09/10 she was choreographic assistant to Achim Freyer in Wagner´s Ring Cycle at Los Angeles Opera.

In 2004 Hanna began to create her own work in collaboration with dancers and actors from New York and Berlin. Her work has been presented at the Tanztage Berlin, the Tanznacht Berlin, fabrik potsdam, Kampnagel Hamburg, Schwankhalle Bremen, West End Theater/N.Y., Villa Warschau, Something Raw Festival, Amsterdam, Explore Festival, Bucharest and others. Her last production Don´t recognize me premiered 2014 in Berlin and was accompanied by the lecture performance Reiterations, which is shown in different contexts, also on its own.

In 2012 she directed her first work for children, Shock-Headed Peter, with the ensemble of the MOKS at the Goethe Theater Bremen. Since then she regularly creates pieces for children with the ensembles of the MOKS and the Deutsches Theater in Göttingen. In her latest project When the body speaks, a commission of TanzSpielZeit at Podewil for children 6+, she collaborated with actor Chris Daftsios and her 7-year-old daughter. When the body speaks premiered in November 2016 and is expected to be shown again in May 2017 at fabrik Potsdam and at several schools in Potsdam.

Further Hanna was invited to develop pieces with teenagers, involving projects with immigrant teenagers at the City Theater Münster and the Cactus Theater Münster and with the TanzZeit-Youth-Company Evoke. She also worked as a Teaching Artist for the Lincoln Center Institute for Aesthetic Education in N.Y., is part of the dance-in-schools-program, TanzZeit, co-founded the Kindercompany Radialsystem together with Livia Patrizi and Sasha Waltz and directed TanzZeit´s Kücüc Kids Company 2011/2012 together with choreographer Josep Caballero. Currently she teaches dance weekly together with a schoolteacher to 5th-graders at a school in Wedding, Berlin, and works to further develop the quality assurance at TanzZeit.

Since 2020 Hanna studies Social Work at BASA-Online at the University RheinMain in Wiesbaden. Since 2021 she works part time as a school social worker, where she uses her experience as a dancer and choreographer for teaching social skills. At the moment she is especially interested in in the ideas about resonance by Hartmut Rosa, which relate to her passion for Klein Technique™ and her interest in social work.
